Full Version: Dynasty characters VERSUS Dallas character

I got this idea from another thread and after I gave my two cents, I wanted to say more. I copied my reply to the original Alexis VS J.R. thread. Do you have any other characters who could go head-to-head?

How about the family hot chicks? (Fallon VS Sue Ellen or Fallon VS Lucy) Actually I think Pamela Sue Martin kicks everybody's butts hands down!
Favorite villians, biggest sluts, awful betrayals, good son, bad son, who had the better family cars?, best office building, coolest parties, juiciest murder trials, loopiest therapy sessions, worst car crashes, best stolen baby story arc.... Gosh, I am such a rabid fan, e_bouncing.gif .....

Don't want to dominate, just putting out some fun ideas. My 1st Head to Head is below:

Alexis VS J.R. Ewing ... hmm I'd give it a TIE! Those two are both so deliciously naughty, greedy, lustful, selfish, dastardly yet intriguingly undeniably human engaging creatures.

That said...What about the other major players in both stories? Who does everyone prefer?

In Jock VS Blake- I'd take Blake. Both men were silver foxes who were tough, proud, macho, yet loving BUT Blake seemed to be able do do well in both worlds of oil rigging AND sophisticated boardroom skullduggery, it seemd Blake could beat a guy in chess AND in rugby. Jock always seemed the ultimate cowboy who had no tolerance for any real office daring do. He left that to J.R. And J.R. showed that the boardroom is for REAL men, not wimps. Blake seemed like he'd be willing to tussel with J.R. but Jock would be destroyed if he had to go against either one. Best example, when J.R. mortgaged Southfork to bankroll the secret Asian oil rig deal. Jock had no idea what to do and even Bobby was advising his dad to let J.R. ride it out. Miss Ellie actually had the best idea to buy the family some time and get quick cash! Not Jock. Blake is a gambler and a risk taker and a dirty fighter (when he needs to be)- just like bad-ass J.R., the major player on Dallas. But on Dynasty, I loved how the major player was also the undisputed head of household at the Carrington estate- BLAKE!!! biggrin.gif wub.gif

I don't really remember too much about the Dallas characters,I did watch it when it first came on, I enjoyed the Bobby /Pam relationship until it all got messed up and then i kind of drifted off and watched Dynasty and from then on I was hooked and never looked back. But what I will say is that I found the Dynasty characters more rounded had more depth not so kind of cardboard cut outs as in Dallas if you see what I mean. e.g.

In Dallas J.R was a down and out evil, but Alexis at least had a reason she was mad at Blake's rejection and wanted him back and if she couldn't she would destroy him and she also was protective of her children and put herself and her company in jeopardy more than once to save Adam. The same with Blake yes he was ruthless in business especially in the early years but he was very compassionate as well especially toward Claudia and his family meant everything to him and unlike J.R his love for his wife knew no bounds. Also Krystle lots of people think of her as weak and boring but I never did,I think she showed great strength in her dealings with Alexis,Fallon's early hostility and even with Blake if she thought he was wrong she certainly told him and showed him and also of course she was very loving and loyal to him as well. She also had the strength to change him from the man he could be into the man he should be.

I think the Carringtons had by far the absolute best parties. Did you know there is a Cattle Barons Ball in Dallas and that the Oil Barons Ball is based on that annual charity? The party is for the who's who of society in Dallas, but it isn't black tie. It's rodeo attire and is a big fundraiser on the Dallas social scene. In TVland, however, the Carrington's had the Carousel Ball and black tie revelry every other week. So, a point to Dynasty.

Adam had been a drunk and a drug user along with Sue Ellen, who as we know, couldn't get off the bottle long enough to remember where she was the night her husband was shot. We know Adam was lonely, sad, tortured, and depressed. That's why he turned to drugs. Was Sue Ellen in the same boat? Did her lonely, loveless (at times) marriage to JR lead her to the bottle? I think the depth with Adam wins this round.

JR Ewing's office was pretty cool with the big oil paintings of their oil wells and in later years the map of the world with small early LED lights displaying significant Ewing Oil activity. Blake's office had hundred thousand dollar furniture (I have a friend who works with luxury furniture and pointed it out one day while drinking champagne and watching the Season 3 DVD). And who could ever forget the elephant tusk desk over at Colbyco? This one goes to Dynasty.

Pam Ewing and Pamela Sue? I will go to my grave proclaiming true love for PSM, but Pam Ewing had the body! She had what PSM lacked (please forgive me, PSM)...boobs! However, her laugh was horrendous and hurt my ears. So Dallas gets this one.

The Dynasty house/office/La Mirage/The Carlton sets and settings were far more regal and really beautiful and I think more realistic to how mega rich people would live. I mean the Carrington's had a whole regiment of staff which you would need to run an estate of that size and the Ewing's just had poor Theresa as I remember, she must have been absolutely knackered by the end of her shift lol_2.gif lol_2.gif

And of course the Carrington's /Colby's were all absolutely gorgeous apart from Adam and I always though Dex was a bit too skinny, but the Ewing's only really had Pam /Victoria Principle and possibly Donna Krebbs /Susan Howard ( I loved her in Petroccelli ) (That was also a nice love story while it lasted Donna & Ray ) and us poor ladies had only Bobby/ Patrick Duffy who was okay but he kind of suffered a bit from Jeff Colby disease he was a bit too pretty and weak.

And as you say Blood_and _Oil the Carringtons definitely had by far the best parties ( Any excuse would do ) and they wore the most incredible outfits, thanks to Nolan for that.

And also getting back to the characters I think most of the Dynasty story lines were based on the far more deep and interesting motive of Love, rather than just good old plain greed.

Blake's love for Krystle

Krystle's love for Blake

Alexis's love for Blake / Dex

Dex's love for Alexis

Claudia's love for Steven

Steven's love for Ted /Claudia / Luke

Jeff's love for Fallon

Fallon's love for Jeff

Kirby's love for Jeff

And a deep love for family /Children. Really the business side of it The Oil /money was only secondry, almost a background story. And the good love / bad love element is something we all can relate to, rather than the riches. The presence of money just made it a lot more fun.
