Full Version: About Steven's integrity

I was watching the Alexis’s trial episodes yesterday and I got a bit angry furious.gif at Steven. They tried to present him as the moral kind of person who cannot live with the secret of knowing a person’s murderer without telling the court about it, not even if the alleged murderer is his own mother who could possibly be sent to jail for life as a result of his honesty. Steven testified against both his parents in court which is rather strange, even in Dynasty where everybody has occasionally threatened to kill everybody else !

If you don’t betray your mother, even if you think she killed someone, you are still a moral person, in my opinion.

And Alexis was always so supportive to Steven in every aspect and accepted him the way he really was, she even forgave him for testifying against her in that trial.

I am not taking it too seriously, anyway, I am just having fun exchanging opinions about a show I used to love (and still love) with people that feel the same way !

Frankly, if I was certain that muy mum has killed a man, I would try to hide to it (according to the circumstances of course). But I would recognize that it's not moral.
Now, I understand the act of Steven and I find it very brave. The only point that bothers me is the way he "suddenly" remembered to have seen his mother throwing Mark of the balcony. Why didn't he talked of that earlier? Did he repressed his memory? And if so, what provoked the awakening of that souvenir?
Stella
Well DCR, I still do not believe that this is a question of morality.

Instincts are stronger than the things they teach us when we grow up, about what is and is not ethical and the rest of the 10 commandments.

One of the strongest instincts is to protect the people you love, who must always come first and everything else must follow, unless you do not really love them.

Steven saw Alexis on the top of the building, when he was on the ground and in the dark and he didn’t give her the benefit of a doubt, he didn’t talk to her, instead he visited her in prison giving her the “I will always love you, no matter what I do to you” speech and then he gave her such a lovely surprise when he was called to the stand !

Alexis is considered to be the cruelest of them all, but in that case Steven takes the lead.

Alexis is my favorite character and I might not be objective but I think that nobody deserves to be treated like that by their own children.

Ignore this, it got duplicated. See below. Where's the delete button? laugh.gif

And Alexis only uses her children. Later, you'll see her turn on Amanda. Alexis would eat her children if it would better herself!

She was a cartoon character, plain and simple. Steven only did what he thought was right. Besides, it's semi-good storytelling, added tension and drama. We all knew Alexis didn't kill Mark. But of all people on the show, one doesn't expect Steven to come forward ... and he doesn't do it gladly ... he agonizes over it. It's interesting that he confides in Krystle first.

And that's right! Steven WAS CALLED to the stand ... he didn't volunteer! And when he was on the stand, he told what he thought was the truth. Remember when Fallon committed perjury on the stand in the Dinard case, it really upset Steven. Steven didn't want to testify.

God, let's just throw honesty out the window! Alexis was not a redeeming character.

I better shut up now ... whistling.gif .

Well, of course, Amanda did sleep with her stepfather. I think I would be a little upset if my grown, married daughter slept with my husband, but that is just me.

Steven could clearly see his mother? Standing on a balcony of a penthouse? At night? Besides Alexis can't beat up Krystle but she beat up a professional athlete? I don't think it was even semi-good storytelling.

Yes, Steven was called to the stand but Stella is right, Steven could have talked with Alexis first.

I never said he could plainly see her!

Again, to each his own!

I saw the verdict yesterday and I think the best line of the episode was Dex calling Steven a "snivelling fag" ! laugh.gif

.. and yes, Alexis is a bit cartoonish but she is so much fun to watch, I think the storyline about bringing her to court and convicting her for murder in the 1st degree was written to satisfy the viewers who wanted to see her suffer a bit after what she had done to Blake, pretty much in the way the have her beaten up every now and then.

And as for Amanda, she made her choice when he slept with her mother’s husband, she was a grown woman, in deed, who let herself fall for a man with whom she could not have a future (unless of course he chose her over Alexis but then she should forget about her mother).

No woman would take that behaviour from her daughter gracefully, after all she was supposed to be in love with Dex and she was very possessive towards him.

And to come back to the main subject again, I think that Steven should have shut up on the stand and say he did not see anything! whistling.gif

I'm just saying Alexis used the "you banished me from my precious children line" for every excuse. Now I understand in both cases Alexis is the victim, but it still wears thin. And as for Amanda, she almost dies before Alexis comes to her senses. (BTW, wouldn't that had been a better story? Amanda commits suicide and we're spared Karen Cellini? Just a thought.)

Now, another one. Suppose Mark is drunk and all Alexis has to do is give him a good shove and he's dead. So, Steven should lie on the stand to protect her? It would be another example of the rich getting away with ... well, murder.

I thought it showed there was one honest person on the show and how he had to struggle with truth and justice, right and wrong. Steven was always the one who had to deal with these issues when it came to his loved ones -- his parents, Ted Dinard, Matthew Blaisdel, etc.

Personally, I think Steven did the right thing. Where are our morals and values? Could Steven had talked to Alexis and say this is what I saw and I'm trying to prepare you? Yes.

Next time I'm in court, I'll be sure to lie through my teeth!
