So to take off on Allegre's note (and all credit is due to Allegre for this one), tell us when you first fell in love with Dynasty? Was it Blake and Krystle's first wedding, when Alexis rose to power as the head of Colbyco, when Steven returns to find his newborn baby son? Also, did you watch during the original run, catch it on FX or Soapnet? When did your love afair with Dynasty begin?
I was in 2nd grade. It was 1982. My mother and sister were watching this tv show late after dinner and I was supposed to be in bed. I saw Fallon dancing on the pool diving board at the fabulous Roaring Twenties Ball opening of La Mirage. My mother told me to get in bed after I tried to stay on the couch and watch. I remember sneaking to the side of the couch and sitting on the floor when no one knew I was there. I watched Fallon dancing, enticing Mark Jennings to join her, and then falling into the pool with him. I thought, "Wow! Who is that?" I remember my sister saying something like, "That's what she (Fallon) deserves. I don't like her anyway." I was instantly smitten with Dynasty and the fantastic Pamela Sue Martin at the sweet young age of 8. -------------------- "I realized I was on a very hot show. It was bigger than any of us and people were absolutely insane about it." - Jack Coleman

I was 12 when I first started to watch, in Season 3. I remember my mother telling a friend it was a pretty funny explanation for Steven's re-cast, that he had "plastic surgery"! I remember that I absolutely loved, loved, loved Bill Conti's theme song. I also recall that I thought Linda Evans and John Forsythe were just magical together, and that Alexis was so, so evil.
What strikes me now, watching it as an adult, is that Alexis is so much more nuanced - there are reasons (not excuses, of course) for her vengefulness, and she does have some positive qualities. It has been fascinating to see the series twice - once as a pre-teen and then again as a grown-up! -------------------- "Did you check your hatchet with my secretary?"

I was about 10 years old when I started watching Dynasty from the very first episode.I had read about it in the press extensively and I was really thrilled when it started showing. I guess I fell in love with it when I saw Linda and John together. They blew me away. Then,as I was growing up and became a teenager,I became addicted to it and couldn't wait for the next episode.
I remember, we were on a school trip somewhere in Yugoslavia (I think we were in what's now Croatia) and all of us were sitting in the hotel lobby waiting for Dynasty to start showing. You can imagine the noise of about 150 teenagers all seated on the floor and teachers glued to the TV.It was fun!!! I also remember 'playing truant' to sleep late because I had to watch an episode of Dynasty quite late.We didn't have a VCR at that time,so I had to watch it late at night. I also collected photos from magazines and other memorabilia. Our newspaper seller always knew that he had to save an extra copy of my favorite magazine in case Blake,Krystle and Alexis were on the cover. I had to make sure that my next door neighbour wouldn't snatch the last copy of the magazine. Guess who always won???? |

What kept me hooked: Fallon jumping off that gurney and not getting the abortion the fabulous actress who played Claudia Blaisedale the gorgeous Kirby the clearly evil and demented Adam the honest & handsome chivalrous Jeff the ridiculous Dominique Devaraux (who did you spell it?) and the trashy Sammy Jo I'll NEVER forget eating bowls of chocolate ice cream and salted pretzels with my grandma while we watched, listening to that fantastic clarinet (?) flare in the opening sequence |
