Soap
fans usually get along as cats and dogs, each defending
the show of their choice and throwing arguments why
their favorite soap is better than the other. One field
where no one can beat Dynasty fans is fashion. Dynasty
is the most glamorous soap of all times. Powerful companies,
expensive cars, mansions, exclusive wardrobe, jewelry...
That is Dynasty!
This section is devoted to Dynasty fashion of the 80's.
Thanks to a very talented designer, Nolan Miller, but
also to the gorgeous actors that wore his designs, Dynasty
dictated fashion trends of the era. In the street, at
the office, stores, galas, there were women copying
hair styles and clothes Dynasty stars wore on the show.
Gray haired men in tuxedos were a catch just like Blake
Carrington was.
Out of this world jewelry Dynasty stars wore also became
a hit and was copied as well. Famous cosmetic companies
started naming perfumes after the names of Dynasty characters.
Evening toilets, feathers, silk and lace, furs and fur
coats of many wild animals, were Dynasty's trade mark.
Alexis's hats and Krystle's shoulder pads started a
trend of its own. There were many scenes in bed and the
special attention was given to what ladies slept in.
On the other hand, creators didn't have to worry about
what would male characters wear in bed. It brought tons
of joy to Dynasty fans, both men and women, to see their
favorite male characters sleep in the nude. Dynasty
also dictated a trend of what business women and should
wear in the office. Though far less glamorous than women's
wardrobe, evening suites men wore at special occasions,
jeans and sweaters for their afternoons, are not to
be forgotten either.
Dynasty fashion marked the 80's. So much glamour and
bliss we rarely see on television, little less in ordinary
life. We remember that time with nostalgia. All we can
do is browse through the Internet for the pictures and
souvenirs of the time gone by. Maybe biting for some
of Nolan Miller's exclusive designs at the auction.

Mr.
Miller's life and career sound like a film scenario. He
was born on January 8, 1935 in Burkbarnette, Texas. He grew up around the rugged life of the oil fields
of Texas and Louisiana, but he was captivated by the
beautiful ladies and clothes he saw on the movie screens
on Saturday afternoons. From an early age he wanted
to design clothes in Hollywood.
After
graduating from high school, he studied at the Choinard
Art Institute in Los Angeles. At the time he graduated,
he found the big studio system, which
used to apprentice young talents, no longer existing.
Not finding
work in the film industry, Mr. Miller took a job in a
florist shop in Beverly Hills. There he met and became
friends with another young man struggling for Hollywood
success, Aaron Spelling. Through this connection he made
his first break into Hollywood designing costumes for
the "June Allyson Show".
For
more than three decades, Nolan Miller's unique and
influential designs appeared in film, theater, and
television productions. Many of Miller's best-known
creations appeared in television shows produced by
Aaroon Spelling: Charlie's Angels, The
Love Boat, Hotel, Hart to Hart and many other hit television series feature
costumes he designed. Still, he is best known for
creating the elegant "Dynasty" look. Designs
created on Dynasty became famous world wide. Women
wanted to look like their favorite characters, they
wanted to be Krystle and Alexis. Wearing clothes their
favorite heroines wore became a trend for thousands of
women. Dynasty was everywhere you turned, in part because
of the glamorous designs created by Mr. Miller.
Nolan
Miller has designed clothing for some of the most famous
women in the world like: Sophia Loren, Elizabeth Taylor,
Linda Evans, Joan Collins, Barbara Stanwyck, Jacklyn
Smith, Eva Gabor, Barbra Streisand, Whoopi Goldberg,
Sally Fields... Nolan Miller also designed a line of
jewelry that can only be found in his shop at Beverly
Hills.
Mr.
Miller is the President of Nolan Miller Couture and is a
member of the Fashion Institute of Design &
Merchandising Advisory Board. Today Nolan Miller is
known as one of the worlds most famous and successful
designers.
