The black sheep of the Colby family, Philip Colby constantly struggles in the shadow of his siblings Jason, Constance, and Cecil Colby. 

He is the ghost from the past. Everyone believed he was killed in Vietnam and Jeff grew up believing Philip was his father. Only at the court there came out the truth that Philip is sterile and that Jason is Jeff's father. 

Phillip returns to town under the assumed identity of Hoyt Parker. He comes back among the Colby's at the wedding of Jason and Francesca when she fainted seeing Philip. He comes back to take Francesca and punish Jason for years of isolation and rejection from Colby's because of his stunts before Vietnam. 

His presence tests Francesca's loyalty to Jason and sets off a chain of events. The brothers fight over the woman they both love and things get worse from there.

The stress and strain of the situation devastates Francesca and ultimately Philip, who resorts to desperate measures, kidnapping her. Jason and Jeff will track them down in a helicopter and he will lose control of the car. 

After the accident, Philip's faith is left unknown.
