Jason is the patriarch of the Colby family from Los Angeles, California. We meet him at a party in Denver where he comes to celebrate his oil venture with Blake Carrington. He was believed to be the father of three children Miles, Monica and Bliss with Sable Scott Colby but at the trial it showed that he is also Jeff's father. 

Jason is a successful business man. He runs the family business, Colby Enterprises, with an iron fist. He is surrounded with love of his children and his sister Constance but also with the steering emotions of his wife Sable. When Sable's sister Francesca comes back after a long time of being away, he again falls in love with her and the feelings get stronger when he finds out not his brother Philip but he is Jeff's father. 

Jason fights the traps his rival Zack is planting him and tries to divorce Sable who is fighting him every step of the way. The death of his sister Constance will devastate him and the bigger shock will be the come back of his "dead" brother Philip who interrupts his wedding to Francesca and will even try to kill him and kidnap Francesca and take her across the border. Jason will, with the help from Jeff, manage to stop Philip and after the accident Jason holds a dying Francesca in his arms. 

It is how The Colbys end but later, on Dynasty, we find out that Jason remained in Los Angeles with Francesca who survived the accident.
