Sean is a danger to the Carrington family. He hides the fact he is the son of the Carrington's butler Joseph, and Kirby' s brother. He comes to Denver to avenge his father's death and the shame the Colbys and the Carringtons brought on his sister. 

He gets close to Alexis by saving her life after she drives her car off a bridge into the lake. She gives her thanks in bed, the thing she does best, and soon, they are married. Sean is familiar with Alexis's business and is on a good way to destroy the Carrington's and the Colby's deal in Africa. Blackmailing Adam's wife Dana and his sexual relationship with Leslie who works for Alexis, are of help. 

When the family finds out about Sean's plan for revenge, and about his criminal record as the IRA terrorist, it's too late. Sean blew up a oil tanker with Dex and Blake aboard. They escaped in the nick of time. It was revealed that Sean was trading guns to hurt Blake and Alexis.

The damage in Africa has already been done and Blake's political career destroyed. Sean kidnaps Adam's son. Steven and Adam barely manage to save him from the river. 

The high point is when Sean tries to rob and murder Alexis. Dex shows up and in the struggle over the gun, he kills Sean.
