Linda Evans: My passion for Dynasty Co-Star
Dynasty
beauty Linda Evans has made a startling confession - her one true love
has been her TV husband, John Forsythe.
Evans,
who has been married twice in real life and has had several failed love
affairs, says the only man she could ever count on was Forsythe, who
played Blake Carrington opposite her character Krystle on DYNA$TY in the
1980s.
"John
and I have maintained our warm and loving relationship over the years,
ever since we did DYNA$TY together," Evans, 59, reveals.
"John
has never left my life. He's an amazing man. Our friendship is still
strong and wonderful. He's one of the only men I've ever been able to
fully trust. He'll never take his friendship away or abandon me. He's
the genuine hero in my life and always has been."
The
blonde stunner's most recent relationship was a nine-year affair with
New Age musician Yanni, 47. Before that, she was married to actor John
Derek and realtor Stan Herman.
Other beaus include director Richard Cohen, celebrity manager Patrick
Curtis and 'The Six Million Dollar Man,' Lee Majors.
"I've
always been rather low-keyed about my affairs, although my relationship
with Yanni was high-profile," says Evans.
"Like
most women, I always looked for a man to rescue me and bring me
happiness. When I was a teenager back in the 1950s, a girl's biggest
goal in life was to be happily married. I bought into that myth, of
course, and looked for my own Prince Charming."
But
none of Evans' romances brought her the happiness she so desperately
sought. Most damaging of all was her marriage to John Derek, who left
her for blonde look-alike Bo Derek, 14 years Evans' junior.
"When
John left me for Bo, I was completely devastated," Evans reveals.
"I was 30 and he thought I was too old for him! You cry tears when
a man leaves you at any age ~ it doesn't matter whether your 20 or
60."
But
in 1981, Forsythe took the role as her leading man on TV. Although they
never became romantically involved in real life, he became her closest
male friend.
The eight years she spent battling archrival Joan Collins' character
Alexis and helping Forsythe's character Blake lead a wealthy Denver oil
family were some of the happiest of her life.
Evans
was there for Forsythe when his second wife died in 1994; Forsythe, now
84, in turn helped her through her breakup with Yanni.
"Our
friendship is a forever kind of thing," she says. "He's
comforted me through difficult times and I was there to help him when
his beloved wife died. That kind of friendship is rare but when you have
it, it's wonderful." In the years since, they have stayed in touch
with daily phone calls and frequent visits.
"John
is loving and kind," Evans sighs. "He's a gracious man who
truly cares about me. And I like that, because it's nice to know someone
really cares for me."
But
Evans says she'll never marry again. "I no longer need to be
someone's wife," she says. "I'm doing okay as I am."
