Jack
Coleman was born on February 21, 1958, in Easton, Pennsylvania. He was raised in an academic atmosphere. His grandfather Herbert Agar
won a Pullitzer Prize in 1934 for his book on the Presidental
election process, "The People's Choice" and his father was
on the faculty of
Lafayette
College
as a distinguished professor of history. He is the youngest of seven
children, all college graduates and is the sixth generation
grandson of Benjamin Franklin.
Jack
was a student at the
Sulberry
School
in
New Hope
,
Pennsylvania and then he switched to Duke University in North
Carolina. Prior to his second year at Duke, Coleman had harbored a
boyish hope of playing professional basketball. It was then that he
turned to acting, a decision he didn't regret.
The
beautiful blonde, Jack Coleman, started his career on NBC's long
running daytime soap "Days of Our Lives". Still a stranger
to a wide public, Coleman grabbed the opportunity and became Steven
Carrington on ABC's prime time soap "Dynasty", replacing
Al Corley. Jack portrayted this character seasons 3-8.
Starred
in such made-for-television movies as "Replacing Dad",
with Mary McDonnell; "Last Rites", with Randy Quaid and
Embeth Davidtz; "Medusa's Child", with Chris Noth and Gail
O'Grady, "Angels in the Endzone", with Christopher Lloyd,
"Oh Baby", sitcom and "Kingdom's Hospital", a
prime time horror series.
On
stage, Coleman has performed "Shakespeare's Love's Labours
Lost" and "Othello" at the Globe Theater in Texas; he
portrayed Danny Zuko in "Grease" at the Northstage Theater
on Long Island; and the title character in David Mamet's "Bobby
Gould in Hell", with Jim Belushi, at the Howard Fine Theater in
Hollywood. He won an L.A. Drama Critics Circle Award for his
performance in "Bouncers" at the
Tiffany
Theater
, and was nominated for his performance in "Stand-Up
Tragedy" at the Mark Taper Forum for a role he created. He
later reprised the role in productions at the Hartford Stage
Company, the Marines Memorials in
San Francisco
and, finally, on Broadway at The Criterion Center.
Coleman
has written, produced and starred in a short film/pilot entitled
"Studio
City", with Tess Harper and Carlos Gomex, directed by Tom
Verica.
His
biggest proffesional achivement remains his "Dynasty"
role. In 1996, he married Beth Toussaint, actress known for her role
on a short lived prime time soap "Savannah". They have a
daughter Tess.
